I met Barbara back in 2016 once my husband and I got married. I became very close to her and her family and I quickly started viewing her as a mentor, in addition to like a second mom in my life.
When my husband and I were trying to conceive our first child, I remember having conversations with her and pouring out my heart about my fears, worries, and frustrations due to it taking longer than anticipated. She encouraged me as she always did. And to this day, I have yet to have a single encounter with her that hasn't left me feeling totally loved and hopeful by the end.
That said, once my husband and I had become pregnant and I learned more about her experience as a L&D nurse, I knew hands down that I wanted her to be my doula. Throughout the course of my first pregnancy, she took the time out of her busy work schedule and as a mom of six to come over teach me different labor positions and to pray over me. She even stayed until crazy hours in the night while I was in active labor. This was all done out of the sheer kindness of her heart and passion for what she does.
Overall, Barbara was a constant source of knowledge and comfort for me during that process. From pregnancy all the way through to postpartum care and breastfeeding. When it came to having our son, she was right there next to me the whole time and even got some wonderful photographs for us in the hospital. My mind was at ease knowing that she was my voice and advocate at a time when I was scared and unsure about many things as a first time mom.
Of course then, when we became pregnant with our second, there was no question. We decided to go the more holistic route but ended up having an unplanned home birth about a week and a half early. Having her by my side though through it all put my worries at ease. And the fact that she shared my faith and values was just the cherry on top it all.
Barbara is truly one of a kind. Her knowledge and caring heart puts her heads above the rest. You will be hard pressed to find someone as genuine and nurturing as she is. She brings a personal touch to what she does, and goes above and beyond the call of duty to shine the love of Christ to the women she advises.
Needless to say, she is family to us in every way, and I really can't say enough wonderful things about her! ❤️

I met Barbara through my mother-in-law and have kept in touch with her ever since. My husband and I are first time parents and did not know what we did not know. Barbara came to us, talked with us and taught us a hands on class. I didn't realize how real she was until labor. She was there for me throughout my labor and birth along with both of our moms. I know I birthed my baby but wouldn't have wanted to do it without Barbara by my side. I absolutely loved my natural and unmedicated birth and could not imagine Barbara not being a part of it. Her support and expertise helped me so much, I now know what my body is designed and capable of! Thank you, Barbara for being there with us!

"Without Barbara, our birth story would have looked very different - from unnecessary interventions, to heightened stress, and many unanswered questions.
Barbara joined us on our journey at 36 weeks and I wish I would have called her sooner!
At first, I was hesitant to call Barbara (or any doula) because I wanted to protect the role of my husband as a birth partner. I didn't want him to be pushed to the side or feel secondary. I'm so relieved to share this was not at all the case with Barbara! She partnered with BOTH of us. She guided my husband in knowing how to care for me in labor. With Barbara "on our team," we were at ease and able to be more emotionally present with each other throughout the birth experience.
Barbara's background (as a nurse and mother) makes her uniquely equipped to walk through labor and birth with women. Her medical literacy helped my husband and I make unexpected decisions with confidence. She helped us assess risk and know when to hold course and let my body work. While a nurse could bring a fear of what could go wrong to situations, Barbara brought a sense of informed peace to labor. Barbara consistently encouraged and reminded me that birth isn't a medical event needing intervention, but rather a process my body was designed for!
As a mother herself, Barbara offers an empathy and wisdom that cannot be learned overnight. In labor, I was comforted knowing that she could relate to the intensity of the experience. In postpartum, I learned by just watching her hold my baby.
Barbara is gentle and strong. I enjoyed listening to her stories, cherished her advice, and appreciated that she knew when to embrace silence.
Barbara's experience, passion, knowledge, and demeanor would be enough to make her an exceptional doula. However, it is her deep faith in God and her recognition of His design in us that I am most thankful for and blessed by.
My labor was LONG. Barbara prayed with me. Spoke scripture over me. We listened to worship music together. She guided me through imagery based on scripture - telling me the story of Peter walking on water and reminding me of Christ's invitation to surrender everything and trust Him. The Lord worked powerfully in my heart in labor, "transforming [me] from a woman to a mother," as Barbara aptly described. While the honor and glory for spiritual work goes to God, I thank Him for His willing and ready instrument, Barbara.
I am not able to adequately express my thanks and appreciation to Barbara - this is my attempt. With love, Anna. "
